The Power of porcelain veneers

The Power of Porcelain Veneers
Turn to any cosmetic dentist for a smile makeover, and chances are the foundation of your treatment plan will be porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin sheaths of durable porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth to cover minor-to-moderate aesthetic flaws such as chips, cracks, gaps, and discoloration. Because porcelain mimics the light-reflecting properties of natural tooth enamel, teeth treated with veneers are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. Like natural tooth enamel, porcelain is translucent; that is, it allows light to pass through rather than reflecting it at the surface. As a result, porcelain veneers are able to restore whiteness to teeth without appearing unnatural or glossy.
Who is a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are ideal for many patients with teeth that are misshapen, whether due to trauma or genetics. Veneers can make smaller teeth appear larger and more proportionate to the mouth and other features of the face, simultaneously concealing whatever gaps might have existed between teeth. Indeed, some cosmetic dentists use porcelain veneers as a sort of “instant braces“; a set of veneers applied to the front teeth can create a more uniform, balanced smile, effectively addressing issues of crookedness and misalignment.
Perhaps the most popular use of porcelain veneers is as a method of whitening the teeth. Because cosmetic dentists can carefully adjust the color of veneers to match the color of surrounding natural teeth, patients don’t have to worry about their teeth appearing artificially white, especially by contrast with their other teeth. Porcelain veneers can also be used as part of an overall whitening plan; a cosmetic dentist can use an in-office teeth whitening system to brighten the natural teeth and then customize the porcelain veneers to match the new, whiter color.
Although porcelain veneers can make the teeth marginally stronger, teeth that have already been weakened by damage are probably more appropriately treated with porcelain crowns.

Porcelain veneers are the most popular treatment here at The Harley Street Smile Clinic. They are used to correct all sorts of cosmetic concerns including teeth straightening, crooked teeth, gappy teeth, discoloured teeeth, protruding teeth, twisted teeth, short teeth, narrow smiles, gummy smiles, and more. If you would like to see if porcelain veneers might be the answer for your dental cosmetic concerns why not come for a consultation and have some computer imaging so that Dr Johannes can show you how you would look with porcelain veneers.
